Ann Arbor-based Commerce Guys, creators of open source eCommerce software Drupal Commerce, recently hired Scott Dahlgren as the company’s new managing director, North America.
• McNaughton & Gunn recently announced that a survey of its customers through the National Association for Print Leadership gave the Saline-based book manufacturing company an overall satisfaction rating of 9.2 out of a possible 10.
• Law firm Butzel Long was recognized recently with a certificate of thanks presented by the Arbor Hospice Foundation for donations made through Butzel Long’s Charity Casual Day program. On the fourth Friday of every month, employees have the option to dress in business casual attire and make a donation to a designated nonprofit organization. Butzel Long attorneys and staff members offer suggestions for charities to designate each month. The Ann Arbor office chose Arbor Hospice for several donations.
• Con-way Freight, an Ann Arbor-based less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership verification for the seventh consecutive year. The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a voluntary program that uses market-based incentives to challenge companies to improve the environmental performance of their freight operations.
• Gentherm Incorporated, a developer of innovative thermal management technologies, April 16 announced that it has promoted Greg Steinl to vice president of the electronics business unit. Steinl is a resident of Ann Arbor.
• Washtenaw County Public Health recently honored local businesses with the 2013 Healthy Workplace Awards. The large and small businesses honored for promoting healthy behaviors in the workplace are: Bank of Ann Arbor, the City of Ann Arbor, Growing Hope, Kaiser Optical Systems Inc. and Whole Foods Market.
• Silver Maples of Chelsea, a nonprofit retirement community, has launched a new logo and updated its branding. In addition to creating a refreshed logo, Silver Maples will now bill itself as a "retirement neighborhood."
• XanEdu Inc., an Ann Arbor-based provider of custom course materials, recently accepted a major financial investment to accelerate market expansion through the development of new services and technology. Plymouth Management Co.'s Plymouth Venture Partners Fund, based in Ann Arbor, and Superior Capital Partners LLC, based in Detroit, provided this recent round of financing for the company, which has nearly 100 employees in offices in Ann Arbor, Kentucky and Massachusetts.
• LLamasoft, a provider of supply chain design software based in Ann Arbor, has been named to Inbound Logistics magazine's 2013 Top 100 Logistics IT Providers list which profiles best-of-breed logistics, transportation, ERP, and SCM technology providers.
• Nine Michigan companies have received a combined total of more than $397,000 through the Michigan Microloan Fund Program, to support commercialization of their core products. Among the nine are five Ann Arbor-based companies. ACIAS LLC is commercializing a suite of literacy instruction and publishing platforms. AdAdapted LLC is commercializing an ad network for mobile gaming and applications. AppKey is commercializing a permission-based marketing approach to monetize mobile apps and content. Dangos Inc. of Ann Arbor is commercializing a suite of mobile applications for travelers. And finally, Ornicept is commercializing its technologies for digitally managing data on natural resources. The Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund was the source of funding for all nine microloans.
