From new hires and promotions to industry awards, here's a roundup of achievements by businesses and individuals in the greater Ann Arbor area:

• Realtor Irma Golden has joined the sales team at Weichert, Realtors - Ehman & Greenstreet in Ypsilanti. She serves buyers and sellers throughout Washtenaw, Wayne and Oakland County as a member of the Ann Arbor Board of Realtors

• TMC Furniture Inc., a contract furnishings company with headquarters in downtown Ann Arbor and factory operations in Grand Rapids, announced Aug. 28 that Valentina Katikos has joined the company as director of sales.

•The Washtenaw Junior Miss Scholarship Program is now called Distinguished Young Women of Washtenaw County. It is part of a state and national scholarship program, now called Distinguished Young Women of Michigan and America, an organization that awards college scholarships to young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their communities. The Distinguished Young Women of Washtenaw County Scholarship Program for this year will take place in November; the location is to be announced soon. Applicants must be graduating high school in 2013, and all young women must live in Washtenaw County. An informational meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at Planetdance, 44314 Cherry Hill, Canton. For more information, visit America’s Junior Miss web site at www.ajm.org.

• Ann Arbor-based Domino's Pizza has opened its first store in Nigeria, company officials announced Aug. 29.

Kelly Klever Massage will host a grand opening celebration all day Monday, Sept. 10 at a new office on the west side of Ann Arbor, within Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy, 180 Jackson Plaza. The massage practice offers both the therapeutic medical massage (relief of chronic and acute pain) and relaxation massage for individuals and corporations.

Michigan Heart, part of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, in late August opened an office in Milan. Michigan Heart Milan will begin seeing patients in the Milan Medical Center, located at 870 Arkona Road. The five doctors practicing out of the Michigan Heart Milan office are Dr. G. Alfred Dodds, Dr. Steven Girard, Dr. Bradley Hubbard, Dr. Frank Smith and Dr. James Wilks. Michigan Heart Milan opens in the former IHA Cardiology Consult-ants office, as Dr. Barbara Kong and Dr. Stephen Rosenblum are leaving the practice to pursue other opportunities.

Great Lakes Educational Group, a Saline-based provider of personalized education services, recently celebrated its expansion with the grand opening of its new 3,200-square-foot facility in Saline.

• Performers rights organization American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers tapped Elizabeth Matthews to become executive vice president and general counsel. Currently serving as executive vice president and deputy general counsel of Viacom Media Networks, Matthews will oversee all legal affairs for the organization. Matthews is a 1986 graduate of Huron High School. She is the daughter of Dean and Cynthia DeGalan of Dexter.

• The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, an organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, in early September announced that President Rose Bellanca of Washtenaw Community College has joined its new Presidents for Entrepreneurship Forum. Through the program, presidents of community colleges throughout the country commit to increase the focus on entrepreneurship at their institutions.

• The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (The Ride), when planning future transit routes and stops in Washtenaw County, increased participation and shared and evaluated people’s ideas using an online community engagement tool, MiCommunity ReMarks from the planning firm of Carlisle/Wortman Associates, based in Ann Arbor. MiCommunity ReMarks uses customized Google technology to let people drag and drop markers onto Web-based maps and add comments and photos to those markers.

Kapnick Insurance Group, an Ann Arbor-based insurance provider, powered the recently launched a free online insurance quoting service, iComparrot. The service collects data from customers and gives them quotes from multiple insurance providers. iComparrot is based in Ann Arbor.

• Recently, the FDA approved a prescription treatment for both irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic idiopathic constipation in adults. While estimates vary, as many as 13 million adults in the U.S. may suffer from IBS-C and as many as 35 million adults may suffer from CIC. The investigator for these trials was Dr. William Chey, professor of gastroenterology at the University of Michigan Health System.
