Michigan Environmental Council held its 15th annual Environmental Awards Celebration July 10 at Ann Arbor City Club.

Dave Dempsey was honored with the Milliken Distinguished Service Award, and Bob Andrus was presented with the Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership.
Dempsey was honored for advocating for strong public policies that protect Michigan’s environment. Dempsey served as environmental policy advisor to former Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard. He is author or co-author of seven books, including "Ruin and Recovery: Michigan’s Rise as a Conservation Leader."

Bob Andrus
Andrus, nominated by the Au Sable River Watershed Committee, received his honor for building grassroots river conservation movements and motivating volunteers to restore Michigan’s trout fishing waters for 30 years. Wading in the Au Sable River and its tributaries to conduct stream erosion surveys, cedar plantings, insect surveys and fish habitat construction, his hands-on knowledge of Michigan waterways helped to shape public policy positions.

Former Gov. William Milliken
The Helen and William Milliken Distinguished Service Award, was named after 44th Governor of Michigan and his wife. Former Gov. Milliken was in attendance at the July 10 ceremony.
