Smith will be taking over the position from current president Sandy Rupp, who stepped down earlier this year to spend more time with her family. Rupp held the post for seven years.
Before her position with CCN, Smith also acted as director of public affairs and marketing at the Ann Arbor Hands-On-Museum for 9 years.
"I have long admired the contributions that United Way makes to our community and am excited to provide leadership for enhancing its visibility and sustainability," Smith said in a press release. "United Way is a catalyst for community collaboration and works to make a measurable, meaningful difference in our local community."
