From new hires and promotions to industry awards, here’s a roundup of achievements by businesses and individuals in the greater Ann Arbor area:
TEL Systems, an Ann Arbor-based integrator of professional video and audio/visual systems, has promoted two employees: Paul Eiswerth and Tim Boggs. Eiswerth has been promoted from sales manager to company vice president after 29 years with TEL. Boggs has been promoted from engineering and service manager to vice president of technical operations.
Boggs has been with TEL Systems for 15 years.
• Dr. Herb Aronow, a cardiologist at Michigan Heart of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, has been elected as the next Michigan governor to the American College of Cardiology. He will serve as governor-elect for a one-year period beginning March 2013 and then assume the three-year governorship in March 2014. In that capacity, he will concurrently serve as president of the Michigan chapter of the ACC.
• Randy Step, the president of Ann Arbor's athletic apparel company Running Fit, in a Jan. 9 ceremony in Dexter's Monument Park presented donation checks to several area nonprofits: the Athletic Booster Club of Dexter, Dexter Seniors, Dexter Lions Club and Faith In Action. The donations were a result of the funds collected at the Dexter Holiday Hustle 5K that took place Dec. 1, 2012.
• The Annual Collaboration for Entrepreneurship 2013, a Michigan-based nonprofit entrepreneurial learning event, recently announced a panel of judges for its "elevator pitch" competition. The ACE '13 event takes place Jan. 31 at Burton Manor in Livonia. ACE will feature two returning judges, Frank Legacki, the director of Fletcher Spaght Ventures in Boston, and Sonali Vijayavargiya, the managing director of Augment Venture in Ann Arbor. This year's two new judges are Adrian Fortino of Detroit-based First Step Fund, a source of private sector gap financing, and Sam Hogg of Open Prairie Ventures, based in Effingham, Ill.
• Curves of Saline, a women's fitness franchise, recently relocated to 6901 S. State Road, Suite B, in the State Street Crossing Shopping Center at Michigan Avenue and State Road.
• With support from Google Ann Arbor, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum recently opened a new exhibit, the Google Liquid Galaxy. The exhibit features seven high-definition monitors that nearly surround museum visitors in an interactive exploration. The large, flat panel monitors connect to Google Earth. Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum visitors can explore the earth, sky and ocean using a central control station in the center of the monitors.
• NSK announced Jan. 10 that the company would establish a manufacturing subsidiary in Mexico in order to keep up with expected growth in the automotive segment among the North American Free Trade Agreement countries of the United States, Canada and Mexico. NSK is a global manufacturer of motion and control products, based in Tokyo. Operating in the Americas, NSK Corp. is a member of the NSK Ltd. group and is headquartered in Ann Arbor.
• Delux Drapery, a Hunter Douglas Gallery dealer located in Ann Arbor since 1942, has moved to 2215 W. Stadium Blvd., the former Arbor Farms building. The move allows Delux to expand its showroom. In conjunction with the move, Delux is hosting a grand-reopening with special events and giveaways; the grand re-opening started Wednesday and runs through Friday, Jan. 18.
• Four Michigan companies, including two based in Ann Arbor, have received a combined total of more than $156,000 through the Michigan Microloan Fund Program. The companies received the funding to support commercialization of their core products. CrowdJuice Corp., based in Ann Arbor, is commercializing web-based and mobile attendee matchmaking software and mobile conference guide for professional events. Sentry Medical Technologies, also based in Ann Arbor, is developing technology for monitoring, awareness and data logging of patient behavior. The other two businesses receiving funding — Supported Intelligence and Zon Labs — are based in East Lansing.
