Water-saving showerheads can save up to three gallons of hot water per minute, which can reduce water-heating costs by as much as 30 percent.

During the assessment, energy consultants will install as many as 40 compact fluorescent light bulbs, water-saving faucet aerators in the kitchen and bathroom and water-saving showerheads that can save up to three gallons of hot water per minute and reduce water-heating costs by 30 percent.

Consultants will also wrap water heater pipes with insulating material, which will save on water-heating costs.

In the first year of the DTE Home Energy Consultation program, DTE Energy visited more than 25,000 homes. In 2012, they plan to reach more than 30,000 households with energy-saving tips and products.
