From new hires and promotions to industry awards, here’s a roundup of achievements by businesses and individuals in the greater Ann Arbor area:

David M. Downey was elected to the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter with headquarters in Chelsea. Downey, who recently relocated to his hometown of Ann Arbor, had previously served on the executive committee of the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Dallas Chapter.

LLamasoft President and CEO Donald Hicks and Senior Vice President John Ames were named to Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine's “Pros to Know” for 2013. Llamasoft is a supply chain software company headquartered in Ann Arbor.

• Five new AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) members will work for Ann Arbor-based Community Action Network for 2013. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that places members in nonprofit organizations or government agencies that fight poverty. VISTA members serve full-time for one year in capacity-building positions. The new members are Chad Beyer and Rachel Seltz, who will work as tutor development coordinators to improve the volunteer and tutor training orientations for CAN's afterschool programs; Marie Koster and Matt Clayton, who will work together as employment development coordinators to develop YouthWorks readiness programs; and Vicky Lai, who will build sponsorship relationships and coordinating fundraisers as the donor developer.

The Friendship Circle, a nonprofit based in Detroit, recently announced that the Weissman Eppler Showich Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, based in Ann Arbor, is now a 2013 corporate strategic partner with the nonprofit. Weissman Eppler Showich will commit time and money to support the organization’s programs such as inclusive sports leagues, camps and the Weinberg Village, a 5,000-square-foot, true-to-life cityscape designed to teach life skills to children with special needs.

ProQuest is seeking applicants for its 2013 Roger K. Summit Scholarship Celebrating its 20th anniversary and open to applicants from around the world, the $5,000 award is given annually to a graduate student in library and information sciences. The winner will be announced at the Special Libraries Association's 2013 Annual Conference June 9 - 11 in San Diego, Calif. Proquest, headquartered in Ann Arbor with offices around the world, is a developer and provider of information management software and tools.

• Gold Star Mortgage Financial Group, based in Ann Arbor, recently announced the appointment of Brooke Hoag as the company's community commitment liaison, a position in which Hoag will formalize and expand community giving efforts developed by Gold Star employees over the years.

• Three University of Michigan professors are among the 126 early-career scientists and scholars from the United States and Canada selected as 2013 Alfred P. Sloan research fellows. The U-M fellows are: Sara Aton, assistant professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology; Gregory Dick, assistant professor of Earth and environmental sciences and of ecology and evolutionary biology; and Stephen Maldonado, assistant professor of chemistry and a member of the applied physics program. The awards were announced Feb. 14. The fellows, who are nominated by their peers and chosen by a panel of senior scholars, each receives $50,000.

Huron Valley Ambulance has received re-accreditation by the national Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services for its compliance with national standards of excellence. CAAS accreditation is designed to help EMS agencies increase organizational performance and efficiency, increase clinical quality and decrease risk and liability.
