After years of operating Shine lifestyle boutique in Royal Oak, manager Kelly Hadin said it was time to expand the store’s “eclectic” product mix to another city.

When Hadin saw the 1,400-square-foot space at 211 S. Fourth Ave. in downtown Ann Arbor — formerly Momus Inc. before the firm relocated — she knew it was perfect.

“I love the exposed brick walls and the hardwood floors,” she said. “The textures that are in the building already are just so beautiful…it’s a beautiful palette for showing the products.”

The owners of Shine signed a lease for the space in January, and Hadin hopes to open the store in the next two weeks. Ed Shaffran of Shaffran Companies owns the building.

Shine’s product mix, Hadin said, is all over the map.

“My main goal is that anybody can walk in the door and find something for anybody on their gift list, whether it’s a child or a grandfather,” she said.

That includes: Jonathan Adler pottery, artwork, photography, children’s clothing, toys, jewelry, accessories, scarves, purses, wallets, T-shirts and home decor.

“I wanted to arrange the price so that you know you can go in and find something cute for $10 or $15,” she said.

Hadin said the new location will be similar to the Shine store in Royal Oak, but some of the artists could vary since she likes to display local artwork. What’s most important, she said, is that Shine becomes an integral part of the downtown Ann Arbor community.

“To me, a downtown and small businesses in general are the cornerstone of a community,” she said. “If there’s something I don’t have, I want to recommend (customers) go to whatever store might have it. I’m excited about being part of the community.”

Hadin plans to split her time managing the two stores, and will hire several employees. There will be a grand opening celebration on March 23.
